COUNTY CARD STABLEFORD - TORQUAY GOLF CLUB

Torquay Golf Club, with their usual aplomb, welcomed 63 golfers from 18 different clubs across the county for the first DevonGolf County Card Stableford of the year. The bacon bap and coffee before play was well received and all set off happily as, for once, it wasn't raining!

Whilst the course was beautifully presented with fast greens, good scores were hard to come by with only 25 golfers scoring 30 points or more. 38 points were scored by Geoffrey Baker (10 - Saunton) quite early on and it was a good while later before Alun Evans (15 - Exeter) was able to match it, albeit coming second on countback. 51 entered the 2s competition and five 2s were scored - Craig Hodge (Elfordleigh), Craig Collins (Teignmouth), Andrew Sutherland (Royal North Devon), Alun Evans (Exeter) and Paul Scholfield (Tiverton), all of whom will receive a voucher to the value of the balls which will be sent to their club pro.

Wendy Stanbury, Women's Competitions Manager, was responsible for the day handing out and entering scorecards with a live leaderboard running so everyone knew how well (or otherwise) they had done. Even those with lower scores were still smiling, having enjoyed the challenging Torquay course and the excellent lasagne that followed their play. Jane Summers was our roving referee and although driving round in the buggy was not the warmest job of the day she smiled throughout.

Lady Captain Laura Colman ran a raffle in aid of Watcombe Primary School who want to build a library and the Disabled Sailing Association. The golfers were very generous and £216 was raised for the charities.
